What is a chronic condition?

A chronic condition is one which exists over a long period of time. The symptoms of individuals who live with chronic conditions are either ever-present or recur frequently. Common chronic conditions include Arthritis,  certain respiratory ailments, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and disorders such as Attention Deficient Disorder (ADD). Due to the unpredictable nature of chronic conditions, planning activities, completing tasks, handling family duties and maintaining relationships often become a challenge. Additionally, feelings of frustration, anger and sadness are not uncommon, especially when the initial diagnosis is given.
